Govt sets up committee to prepare plan for Ganga rejuvenation

NEW DELHI: Government has set up a committee of secretaries (CoS) to prepare a detailed plan for cleaning of Ganga and its rejuvenation. Water resources minister Uma Bharti said that the committee will submit a report within one month.

It will be headed by water resources secretary Alok Rawat.

As per the plan, the stretch between Varanasi and Hoogly will be developed for navigation.

The waterway will be of at least 45 meter in width and 3 meter in depth. There will be 11 terminals and the stretch will be developed for tourism activities. There will be tourism spots on the lines of developed countries.
