Jayalalithaa, Karunanidhi and other leaders condole Ramachandra Adithan’s demise

CHENNAI: P Ramachandra Adithan, administrative editor of Tamil evening daily 'Maalai Murasu,' died at his Adyar residence on Wednesday due to prolonged illness.

Adithan was 79 and is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. He was the elder son of former Tamil Nadu minister CP Adithanar. His elder brother Sivanthi Adithan, who was the former editor of 'Dina Thanathi,' died a few months ago.

Political leaders, including chief minister J Jayalalithaa, DMK chief M Karunanidhi, PMK founder S Ramadoss and MDMK general secretary Vaiko, condoled his death.

Senior state ministers O Panneerselvam, Natham R Viswanathan, KP Munusamy and R Vaithilingam paid homage on behalf of Jayalalithaa.

Union shipping minister GK Vasan, VCK leader and MP Thol Thirumavalavan, Karunanidhi's wife Rajathi Ammal were among others who paid homage to him.

Adithan had been managing 'Maalai Murasu' for more than 50 years. He started magazines like 'Kanmani' and 'Devi.'

He had also played a vital role in retaining the management of the Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank in which a majority of stake is being held by his community members — nadars.
