On the other hand, Pandey accused media of twisting his statement and giving a different colour. "What was wrong in praising someone beautiful. I haven't said anything indecent about the woman IAS officer," the visibly angry minister said while replying media queries. Pandey further said that he was praising the work done during her stint as district magistrate in Sultanpur. "I only said she was beautiful and I find nothing wrong in it," Pandey added.
Pandey, who is minister-in-charge of Sultanpur, had on Tuesday while presiding over a function in Sultanpur made remarks which left the woman officer embarrassed. In his speech, while referring to K Dhanlakshmi, the 56-year-old minister said "She is beautiful...sweet voice... working capacity is high... her figure is also very good. During the previous regime, I was fortunate to have an opportunity to work with another beautiful woman district magistrate in Sultanpur ".
The remark drew widespread criticisism including from the ruling Samajwadi Party MLAs. Party MLA from Lucknow (central) Ravi Das Mehrotra threatened to take the matter to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and national chief of the Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav if the minister failed to express a public regret. It might be recalled that Pandey was earlier accused of taking bribe for transfer and posting of officials in khadi and village industry department.
