A statement issued by the railway ministry states that the total approximate earnings from goods during April 1, 2014 - August 31, 2014 were Rs 40879.09 core compared to Rs 37103.34 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.18 per cent.
The total approximate revenue earnings from passengers during April 1, 2014 - August 31, 2014 were Rs 17700.16 crore compared to Rs 14758.01 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 19.94 per cent.
The approximate revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 1649.40 crore during April 2014 - August 2014 compared to Rs 1560.66 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 5.69 per cent.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during April 2014 - August 2014 were 3508.68 million compared to 3467.60 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 1.18 per cent.
In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April 2014 - August 2014 were 1932.83 million and 1575.85 million compared to 1882.25 million and 1585.35 million registering an increase of 2.69 per cent and a decrease of 0.60 per cent respectively during the same period last year.
