ERODE: Forest officials on Thursday trapped a leopard that killed a truck driver and a forest guard on the Dhimbam ghat road in Erode district recently.

Forest department personnel had been combing the Thalamalai forest range, especially a 5km radius along the Dhimbam ghat, to trap the leopard that had partially fed on its victims. They trapped the animal in a cage with a bait.

"We trapped the leopard on Thursday morning, and it has been sent to Vandalur zoo in Chennai," said K Rajkumar, district forest officer, Sathyamangalam.

It may be recalled that Krishnan, a forest guard at a checkpost on the Dhimbam ghat road, was killed by a leopard last week. A truck driver hailing from Thalavadi in Erode district was killed by a leopard last month.

The Dhimbam ghat road is a busy route for heavy vehicles and cars heading towards Karnataka.
