G L Raheja, real estate tycoon, passes away in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Real estate developer G L Raheja who created a Rs 11,000 crore construction firm run by him and his son passed away on Tuesday leaving behind an unfinished legal family battle over control.

Raheja, one of four brothers, was over 80 years old and suffering from a "serious ailment" his lawyers had recently informed the Bombay high court.

While the senior Raheja died early Tuesday morning, sources said his only son against who the legal fight is pending was in Europe and expected back soon.

Raheja whose construction firm was called K Raheja Constructions was the first to build a department store much before the malls were made, when he developed the Shopper's Stop in Mumbai.
