CHENNAI: Hailing the Tamil Nadu police for their brave act of nabbing proclaimed offenders Sikkander 'Police' Fakrudeen, Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday announced a cash reward of Rs 15 lakh to police inspector S Lakshmanan and Rs 5 lakh each to the members of the entire special investigation team.

The Tamil Nadu government set up the team after a series of murders of Hindu outfits rocked the state. The murdered include BJP state secretary V Ramesh and Hindu Munnai state secretary S Vellaiyappan. "Each member in the team has a role in this victory. I extend my heartfelt wishes to all of them," she said.

The chief minister said the state would bear the medical expenses of Lakshmanan, who is undergoing treatment at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Hospital in Porur. Lakshmanan was subjected to brutal attacks by the inmates of the Puthur hideout. He suffered 15 cut injuries on his head, shoulders and nose and had his rib fractured after Malik's wife hit him with a pressure cooker.

Jayalalithaa said about 20 policemen in the rank of constable to additional superintendent of police will be given a one-time promotion.

"The extreme act of courage and dedication of the police officials led to arrest of absconding offenders and thwarted the planned violent acts and conspiracies. The Tamil Nadu police have proven again that they are matchless," she said.

Following a series of murders of leaders of Hindu outfits, the state government set up a special investigation team led by CB-CID DGP Narinderpal Singh.

The members of the team include S Lakshman (special division inspector), Anbu (CB-CID superintendent of police), R Arularasu (special division superintendent of police), Sankar (special division superintendent of police), Senthil Kumar (Tiruvallur district additional superintendent of police), Karthikeyan (Madurai CID deputy superintendent of police), Marirajan (Madurai city CID deputy superintendent of police), Ravindran (special division inspector, Chennai), Vijayaraghavan (Salem CID inspector), Veemaraj (Tiruvallur district Tiruttani police inspector) ,Vetrivel (Chennai special division assistant inspector), Manikandan (Chennai special division assistant inspector), Edward Bright (Chennai special division head constable), Prabhu (Chennai special division CID head constable), Anandan (Chennai CID head constable), Ilango (Tiruttani police head constable), Sivanesan (Madurai special investigation team first grade constable), Rajasekaran (special division constable), Sujin (Tiruttani police constable), Kalaivanan (Tiruvallur district armed forces constable) and Rajakumar (Tiruvallur district armed forces constable).
