BHOPAL: Nearly 20 people including a dozen in one district, were killed in separate rain-related accidents reported from across Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.
Road and railway was disrupted in the rain-hit areas. Schools, hospitals and offices also remained closed in the many affected areas due to torrential rains and resulting floods.
In one of the incidents, 12 persons were killed after their houses collapsed in Narsinghpur district. Bodies of 8 persons including five children and two women were recovered by the police team.
Narsingpur superintendent of police (SP) Manish Kaporia the incident took place at the outskirts of Gadarwra area, after huge debris slumped over their houses from a small hillock. "Rescue works are being carried out by police and administration," he said.
In another incident, two persons were killed and several injured after a wall of a 110-year-old building named 'Nepal Palace' collapsed in Civil Lines area at Sagar Sagar district in the morning.
Separately, man and his son died on the spot after a tree collapsed on their house in Damoh district while two others were reportedly washed away in Madnla district. More such cases are being reported from Shivpuri, Jabalpur, Dindori, Gwalior, Morena, Hosangabad and other places.
