CHENNAI: The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) on Tuesday announced that it would hold a black flag demonstration when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits the state on August 2.

In a statement, MDMK general secretary Vaiko said he and his party men would hold the peaceful protest in front of the Trichy airport to condemn the UPA government's alleged support to the Sri Lankan government to convene the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

"To show our opposition and condemn the betrayal of Centre on Tamil issues, we are holding this agitation," Vaiko said in his statement.

He said that the UPA government at the Centre failed in its duty to safeguard the Indian fishermen from the attacks of the Sri Lankan navy. He appealed to the students' community and pro-Tamil groups to join the demonstration.

The Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited's power plant piping unit at Thirumayam in Pudukottai district on August 2.
