RAIPUR: Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday alleged that Raman Singh government had promoted 'crony capitalism' in Chhattisgarh during the nearly 10 yearlong BJP rule in the state.

Talking to newsmen here at the state Congress headquarters, he said the case of Pushp Steel, which is now being investigated by the CBI, was a classic case of how a company with a nominal paid up capital was allotted iron ore mines and later coal mines on the recommendations of the state government.

Accusing the state government of wasting peoples' money for propaganda and other extravaganza, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said the BJP government had alienated from the masses and a wave of change was sweeping across the state.

Singh, who was here to participate in the 'Parivartan yatra' being organised by the state Congress, referred to the logjam in Parliament saying that the opposition BJP was stalling fearing that a debate on issues would also lead to discussion on decisions taken during the previous National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime.

The AICC general secretary said the BJP was trying to kick up controversies over 2G and Coalgate reports by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) which, he said had portrayed unrealistic figures about the potential loss. On the other hand, the BJP is silent on the CAG report that exposed mining deals, involving people close to them BJP president Nitin Gadkari, in Chhattisgarh.
