Avalanche hits hamlet in Himachal, 35 yaks killed in Sangla Valley

SHIMLA: An avalanche hit Himachal Pradesh's remote hamlet in the picturseque Sangla Valley on Tuesday, killing more than 35 domesticated yaks.

However, no loss of any human life was reported, deputy commissioner J.M. Pathania told IANS.

Rescue workers have been sent to the spot.

Sangla Valley in Kinnaur district experienced heavy snowfall last week, measuring more than six feet.

The entire Kinnaur district has been cut off from rest of the state and there has been absolute electricity failure since January 17.

Pathania said roads between the state capital and Rekong Peo, the district headquarters, are likely to be re-opened to traffic in a day or two.
